Inflation drops to 9.16% in June
The country’s point-to-point inflation slowed to 9.16% in June from 9.42% in May, providing modest relief after price pressures climbed to a 16-month high the previous month.
Despite the decline, inflation remained above the 9% threshold for the third straight month, highlighting the persistent pressure on household budgets.
According to data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday, the 12-month moving average inflation fell to 8.68% during the July 2025–June 2026 period, compared with 10.03% in the corresponding period a year earlier.
The latest data indicate that inflationary pressures are gradually easing, although prices remain considerably higher than they were a year ago. Point-to-point inflation was recorded at 8.48% in June 2025.
Food inflation declined to 8.60% in June from 9.06% in May, while non-food inflation edged down to 9.61% from 9.71% over the same period.
Even with the monthly moderation, both food and non-food inflation remained above their year-earlier levels. Food inflation stood at 7.39%, while non-food inflation was 9.37% in June 2025.
