A bomb exploded at a rally organised by the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Savar on Monday night, leaving several people injured.

The explosion occurred at around 9:45pm at the Savar Police Station Stand Eidgah, according to NCP Executive Committee member Yasir Arafat.

The exact nature and lethality of the explosive device could not be immediately confirmed, although some reports suggested it was a crude bomb.

Yasir alleged that "terrorists" detonated the bomb while NCP Dhaka district Convener Engineer Nabila Tasnid was addressing the gathering.

NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, and several other senior party leaders were present on the stage at the time of the blast.

Following the explosion, NCP leaders and activists gathered outside Savar Model Police Station, where they staged a protest condemning the attack on the public rally.

The incident occurred during the party's nationwide "July March 2026" campaign, which is demanding a referendum, greater job creation, and stronger border security. The programme was launched on Sunday across 100 upazilas and municipalities in all 64 districts, beginning with a march and rally in Savar.
