Dhaka and Washington signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday aimed at enhancing Bangladesh’s food security, improving nutritional standards, and ensuring a stable food supply.

The agreement was signed by Md Abul Hasanat Humayun Kabir, Director General of the Directorate General of Food, and Joseph K. Sowers, Vice President of the US Wheat Associates, representing their respective countries.

According to a UNB report, the MoU stipulates that Bangladesh will import 700,000 metric tonnes of high-quality wheat from the United States annually over the next five years at competitive prices.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder stated that the agreement would deepen mutual trust and expand trade cooperation between the two nations, delivering benefits to both sides.

The event, held at the Ministry of Food’s conference room, was attended by Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Dhaka, Commerce Secretary, and other senior officials, with Food Secretary Md Masudul Hasan presiding over the proceedings.
