Canada's Indo-Pacific Trade Representative Arrives Today

Canada’s Indo-Pacific Trade Representative, Paul Thoppil, is set to arrive in Bangladesh this evening for a four-day visit, accompanied by a business delegation. According to a press release from the Canadian High Commission, Thoppil will engage with key figures in Bangladesh’s Interim Government, private sector leaders, and other stakeholders.
His visit aims to reaffirm Canada’s support for Bangladesh during a crucial period of democratic reform and efforts toward free and fair elections. Thoppil will also emphasize Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and explore avenues to strengthen bilateral trade and investment. Field visits to key private sector zones are planned to showcase the depth of economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The release highlighted Bangladesh as one of Canada’s important and expanding trade partners, with Canada exporting wheat, pulses, cereals, and machinery, while importing textiles and garments. Both nations are working to deepen cooperation in sectors such as IT, aerospace, agriculture, and clean energy.
