Andre Carstens Bids Farewell to CA Yunus, Shares Song Honouring July Uprising
Andre Carstens, the outgoing Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, paid a farewell visit to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna today.
During the meeting, Carstens praised Professor Yunus for his leadership over the past year, particularly in guiding Bangladesh through a critical transitional period following the fall of the previous regime. He commended the Chief Adviser’s role in advancing democratic reforms and promoting national unity. “People will remember you,” Carstens remarked.
Carstens also lauded the recently announced “July Declaration,” calling it a significant milestone that connects Bangladesh’s historical journey with the hopes of the July mass uprising. He described the Chief Adviser’s announcement of the upcoming election timeline as “perfect,” noting it charts a clear course toward national elections.
The two also discussed the Rohingya crisis and the upcoming international conference on the issue, set for September, which aims to tackle both the humanitarian and political dimensions of the crisis.
In a heartfelt gesture, Carstens presented Professor Yunus with a song he had written celebrating the spirit of the Gen-Z-led July Revolution. Set to the melody of George Harrison’s iconic song “Bangladesh,” the lyrics—recorded and accompanied by a video—were shared during the meeting.
Special Envoy to the Chief Adviser Lutfey Siddiq and SDG Coordinator Lamiya Murshed were also present.
