CEC expresses confidence in conducting a neutral election, says EC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin today said the Election Commission (EC) is confident and fully committed to conducting a free, fair and neutral election.
He made the statement this morning after visiting the appeal centre at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, which has been set up to receive appeals against Returning Officers’ decisions on the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers.
Earlier, the CEC inspected the 11 booths of the temporary appeal centre, reviewed the overall arrangements and inquired about the on-site situation.
Expressing satisfaction with the EC’s preparations for the appeal process, he told journalists, “As you can see, we are trying to give our best.”
Responding to a question, the CEC said he was optimistic that any adverse situation, if it arises, would be resolved in due course.
He added, “We are confident about holding a free, fair and neutral election. Insha Allah, with the combined efforts and cooperation of all, the EC believes this will be possible.”
The process of filing appeals with the EC against Returning Officers’ decisions on nomination papers for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and referendum 2026 began today at 10:00am.
Candidates or concerned parties may submit appeals at the 10 designated booths set up at the Election Commission, following the prescribed guidelines. Those seeking information or clarification regarding the appeal process have been asked to contact the central booth.
The Election Commission said appeals can be filed from today until January 9, from 10:00am to 5:00pm each day.
Earlier yesterday, the EC said 1,842 nomination papers were accepted as valid, while 723 were rejected across 300 parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming election.
