Salahuddin Ahmed appointed head of constitutional amendment committee
The Jatiya Sangsad has formed a 12-member special committee, led by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, to oversee the process of amending Bangladesh's Constitution.
The committee was constituted in Parliament on Monday night.
Its members include BNP Chief Whip Nurul Islam, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, BNP lawmakers Zainal Abedin, Mir Helal Uddin, Farzana Sharmin, Shakila Farzana and Mahmudul Haque, Ganosamhati Andolan MP Junaid Abdul Rahim Saki, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) lawmaker Andaleev Rahman Partho, Gono Odhikar Parishad MP Nurul Haque Nur, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh lawmaker Md Oliullah.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam tabled the proposal to form the committee on behalf of Leader of the House Tarique Rahman.
The committee was initially planned to have 17 members. However, despite being invited to nominate five representatives, the opposition did not submit any names, leaving the panel with 12 members.
