The law governing the July Charter referendum will be enacted within the next three to four days, the Law Adviser has said.

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said on Thursday that the law required to hold a referendum on implementing the July Charter will be enacted within the next three to four days.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, he said the referendum will take place alongside the national elections scheduled for early February. The move follows Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus’s earlier announcement.

In his address to the nation, Prof Yunus said the referendum aims to seek public approval for roughly 48 proposed constitutional amendments contained in the July National Charter.

Voters will be asked to respond “Yes” or “No” to a single question that encapsulates four key elements of the proposed constitutional reforms.

According to the interim government’s plan, if a majority votes “Yes,” the newly elected government will be obligated to enact the amendments.
