Around 3,500 voters registered on the first day to cast their ballots via the Postal Vote BD app, according to officials overseeing the system.

The registration window opened on Thursday and will remain available until 23 December.

Salim Ahmad Khan, Team Leader of the Out of Country Voting System and Implementation (OCV-SDI) project, confirmed the figures today.

He said that for the upcoming national election, 1,745 Bangladeshis in South Korea have already registered for postal voting.

In addition, 690 voters signed up from Japan, 368 from China, 363 from South Africa, 61 from Libya, 52 from Egypt, 19 from Uganda, 15 from Mozambique, 14 from Mauritius, 11 each from Nigeria and Liberia, nine from Botswana, six from the Republic of Congo, five from Tanzania, and four each from Kenya and Morocco.

For the first time, postal ballots will be available not only to expatriates but also to prisoners and election officials on duty.
