Touhid: Upcoming election will be a major test for law enforcement agencies
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today said the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election will serve as a major test for the country’s law enforcement agencies.
“Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has described the upcoming polls as an ideal election, and law enforcement agencies must remain alert,” he said.
Touhid made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting with Rangpur district officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room this morning. Newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Mohammad Enamul Ahsan presided over the programme.
He said the interim government aims to transfer power to an elected government through a credible election.
“Law and order underpin everything. Although there were difficulties at the outset, the situation has improved. The police have been able to reorganize and function effectively,” he added.
The adviser stressed the need for prioritising the education and health sectors. He said the interim government has initiated several projects and expressed hope that the next government would continue them.
On potato exports, Touhid said the government is actively considering the issue, but noted that the global market is limited, with only two or three countries regularly importing potatoes.
Speaking about overseas employment, he said Bangladeshis must go abroad as skilled workers to secure better wages. “Most of our people do not migrate with the required skills, which results in lower salaries,” he said. He highlighted the shortage of nurses abroad and urged the relevant authorities to take initiatives to develop skilled nursing professionals.
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Marufat Hussain, Civil Surgeon Dr Shaheen Sultana, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Md Tofail Ahmed, District Livestock Officer Dr Md Abu Sayeed, and other officials also spoke at the meeting.
Earlier, a video titled “Rangpur, the centre of progress in the northern region” was screened.
Later, the adviser visited key sites and establishments in the city and is scheduled to visit Rangpur Cadet College this afternoon.
