Home Adviser says all stolen heavy weapons have now been recovered.

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Friday that all heavy weapons stolen from law enforcement agencies have now been recovered.

“There has been no failure on the government’s part in retrieving weapons looted from the police. Recovery efforts are underway and will continue,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at an event organised by the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters at its Purbachal training ground to mark International Volunteer Day.

Asked about the exact number of weapons recovered or still unaccounted for, the adviser said he did not have the figures immediately available.

Responding to another question on the recent police ordinance, Jahangir Alam said the government enacts laws for public benefit.

“This law was designed to ensure people receive services—it is for the welfare of the public,” he said.

The event was attended by senior officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, representatives from various organisations, and personnel of different ranks.

The adviser said the Fire Service and Civil Defence is working to develop a nationwide network of 62,000 volunteers, with more than 55,000 already trained. He commended the agency’s progress in taking forward this “timely and essential” initiative.

Jahangir Alam added that disasters such as earthquakes, major fires, and floods are “difficult for government forces to manage alone,” emphasising the critical role of trained volunteers.

“For this reason, proper training is essential. Volunteers at all levels must be ready—especially for disasters like earthquakes. I was pleased to see today’s demonstrations. I believe you will be able to carry out your duties effectively when required,” he said.
