Prime Minister pays tribute at graves of Pilkhana massacre victims
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the graves of Army officers killed in the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) mutiny at Pilkhana on বৃহস্পতিবার morning. Accompanied by his wife, Zubaida Rahman, he arrived at the Banani Military Graveyard at 9:15am on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, reports bddnews24.com.
The couple first visited the grave of Zubaida Rahman’s father, former Navy chief Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, and offered prayers for his departed soul.
They later paid tribute to the Army officers killed during the 2009 BDR mutiny by standing before the memorial pillar and offering special prayers for the victims.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, along with other officials and BNP leaders, were present during the visit.
A total of 74 people, including Major General Shakil Ahmed and 56 Army officers, were killed during the mutiny at the then Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Dhaka’s Pilkhana on February 25 and 26, 2009.
Most of the Army officers who lost their lives in the incident were laid to rest at the Banani Military Graveyard.
