Fire erupts on oil tanker in Chattogram

A fire broke out on an oil tanker anchored at the outer anchorage of Chattogram on Thursday morning.

The blaze reportedly began around 7:25am on the vessel, identified as MT Meghna Trader.

Following the incident, several units of the Bangladesh Coast Guard launched operations to contain the fire.

According to Coast Guard sources, the vessels Shyamol Bangla and BCGT Promotto took part in the firefighting efforts. Two additional firefighting teams, equipped with high-speed boats from BCG Base Chattogram and BCG Outpost Patenga, were also dispatched to the scene.

The incident was confirmed by the Coast Guard Eastern Zone Media Control Room.

However, authorities could not immediately determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage, as Coast Guard personnel continued their efforts to bring the blaze under control.
