Prime Minister Tarique Rahman joined the main Eid-ul-Azha congregation at the National Eidgah adjacent to the High Court in the capital on Thursday morning.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin also took part in the prayers, which commenced at 7:30am.

The congregation was attended by cabinet members, state ministers, lawmakers, judges from the Appellate and High Court divisions, diplomats from various Muslim-majority countries, political leaders, senior government officials and people from different walks of life.

The Eid prayers were led by Baitul Mukarram National Mosque khatib Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek, who also delivered the khutbah following the two rakats of wajib prayers.

The Dhaka South City Corporation organised the congregation at the National Eidgah, arranging separate spaces for women and VIPs.

Separate entry routes, ablution facilities and prayer arrangements were also made for women worshippers, while medical teams remained on standby at the venue.

According to officials, the Eidgah had the capacity to accommodate nearly 35,000 worshippers, including around 3,500 women.
