Mahdi Amin has said that the Farmer Card will integrate modern technology into agriculture and help transform the livelihoods of farmers.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Mahdi Amin today said the primary goal of the “Farmer Card” initiative is to integrate modern technology into the agricultural sector.
“Farmer Card is not just a distribution programme; it is a strong mechanism to directly empower farmers and connect agriculture with modern technology. This card will help transform the fortunes of farmers,” he said.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting with investors in agriculture and agro-based industries at the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon.
Amin said the initiative, introduced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, goes beyond issuing cards and aims to strengthen the economic foundation of Bangladesh’s agriculture-driven economy.
He added that the programme, earlier announced by the prime minister, will be officially launched tomorrow in Tangail on Pahela Baishakh.
According to him, more than 20,000 farmers across 11 upazilas in 10 districts will receive the cards in the initial phase.
Each cardholder will get financial assistance of Tk 2,500. Farmers will also have access to subsidised agricultural inputs, crop insurance, government support, and modern farming equipment.
There are also plans to include farmers in regular advanced training programmes.
Amin further said the initiative is designed to ensure direct delivery of government subsidies to farmers without intermediaries and to help them secure fair prices for their produce.
He added that the programme is part of the ongoing implementation of the BNP’s election manifesto and its 31-point reform agenda, aimed at empowering people socially and economically across all sectors.
