A vessel carrying 34,000 tonnes of diesel from Malaysia has arrived at Chattogram Port.
The vessel Shan Gang Fa Jian has reached Chattogram Port carrying over 34,000 tonnes of diesel from Malaysia.
Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim confirmed on Saturday morning that the ship entered the Kutubdia Channel at the port’s outer anchorage in the Bay of Bengal late Friday night. It had set sail from Malaysia on March 29.
The ship’s local agent, Pride Shipping Lines, said a portion of the cargo—around 5,000 to 6,000 tonnes—will need to be offloaded at the outer anchorage through lightering, a process expected to take at least two operations. If everything proceeds smoothly, the vessel is likely to berth at the Dolphin Jetty in Patenga on Sunday.
Meanwhile, another tanker, Yan Jing He, has arrived from Singapore with 27,300 tonnes of diesel and is currently discharging its cargo at Padma Oil’s Dolphin Jetty-6. The vessel is scheduled to depart on Sunday. Pride Shipping is also acting as the local agent for this ship.
According to Syed Refayet Hamim, oil and gas carriers are being given priority at the port to help manage the ongoing fuel shortage. Sources at the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) said this is the tenth diesel shipment to arrive at Chattogram since the Middle East conflict began.
To maintain stable fuel supplies, BPC is increasing imports from alternative sources beyond the Middle East, alongside pipeline deliveries.
