BMU has inaugurated a dedicated ward and screening centre to enhance treatment and management of measles patients.

An eight-bed dedicated ward for measles patients has been established at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in response to a recent surge in infections nationwide.

BMU Director (Hospital) Brig Gen Irteka Rahman said the ward is located on the second floor of Block C and could be expanded further if needed. A measles screening centre has also been introduced to improve detection and management of cases.

On Thursday (2 April), Irteka, accompanied by Deputy Director (Hospital) Dr Mohammad Abu Naser and other officials, visited the ward to assess treatment facilities.

At present, four patients are admitted there. Authorities have also set up a monitoring cell to track the measles situation. Plans are underway to open another screening centre at Outpatient Department (OPD)-2 and to establish an extended isolation ward on the second floor of Block F to strengthen preparedness.

Hospital officials said these steps aim to improve patient care and curb the spread of the disease.
