US, Iran and regional mediators are pushing for a 45-day ceasefire, according to an Axios report
Negotiations are examining a two-phase agreement aimed at bringing the war to an end.
The United States, Iran, and a group of regional mediators are discussing terms for a possible 45-day ceasefire that could pave the way for a permanent end to the war, Axios reported on Sunday, citing four US, Israeli, and regional sources familiar with the talks.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report, while the White House and the US State Department did not respond to requests for comment.
According to the report, mediators are working on a two-phase deal. The first phase would involve a 45-day ceasefire, during which negotiations for a permanent end to the war would take place. The second phase would focus on reaching a final agreement to end the conflict.
The ceasefire could be extended if more time is needed for talks. Meanwhile, Donald Trump told The Wall Street Journal on Sunday that Iran faces a Tuesday evening deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or risk attacks on critical infrastructure.
