Govt to reopen six jute mills through private initiative: Jute Minister
Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir today said the government has decided to reopen six jute mills under private initiative within the next six months.
He disclosed the decision at a press conference held at his ministry’s conference room at the Secretariat this morning.
Earlier, an emergency meeting was held at the ministry to discuss the reopening, leasing, and overall situation of closed jute mills, with key stakeholders in attendance.
State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam and BIDA Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, among others, were present at the meeting.
At the press conference, the minister also said the remaining closed jute mills would be reopened or leased out in phases.
He expressed hope that the move would boost investment and exports while generating employment opportunities.
