Ekushey Book Fair Postponed

The Bangla Academy has announced the postponement of the upcoming Amar Ekushey Book Fair, originally slated to begin on December 17, following a government directive tied to the forthcoming national election.

In a notice issued Sunday, signed by the Academy’s Director General, it stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs had directed on September 21 that the annual book fair be organized only after the election.

“Based on the government’s instructions and after consultations with the Publishers and Booksellers Association (BAPUS) and other stakeholders, the previously scheduled date for the 2026 fair has been suspended,” the statement said, adding that a new date will be declared later in coordination with publishers and partners.

Traditionally held in February, the fair had been advanced to December this year in view of the election expected in early 2026.
