Three organizations—Grameenphone Ltd, British American Tobacco (BAT), and Edotco Bangladesh Company Ltd—have jointly contributed Tk 88.66 crore to the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation (BLWF) fund.

According to a PID handout, the contribution was made in compliance with the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 (Amended 2018), which requires companies to deposit 0.5 percent of their annual profits into the fund.

The cheques were handed over to the Adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Of the total amount, Grameenphone Ltd contributed Tk 68.80 crore, BAT Bangladesh provided Tk 15.98 crore, and Edotco Bangladesh Company Ltd contributed Tk 3.09 crore.

The money will be deposited into the BLWF fund and utilized for the socio-economic development of workers across the country.

Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Dr. Md Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, Director General of the Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Foundation Md Munir Hossain Khan, along with representatives from Grameenphone Ltd, BAT Bangladesh, and Edotco Bangladesh Company Ltd, attended the cheque handover ceremony.
