First Batch of Bangladeshis to Return from Conflict-Hit Iran Next Week: Foreign Ministry

The first group of Bangladeshi nationals seeking to return from conflict-affected Iran is expected to arrive home next week, as the government has launched a coordinated repatriation process with assistance from neighboring countries, the foreign ministry said today.

“The ministry is working to ensure that the initial group of willing individuals can return to Bangladesh by next week,” said Shah Asif Rahman, Director General of the Public Diplomacy Wing, while reading out a foreign ministry statement.

Given the ongoing conflict in Iran, the Bangladesh government has initiated necessary procedures to repatriate all Bangladeshi nationals who wish to return, the statement added.

The repatriation effort will be carried out in cooperation with Iran’s neighboring countries, it noted.

The foreign ministry expressed hope that the remaining Bangladeshis would be repatriated in phases. It also said coordination is underway with the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment to facilitate the returns.

In its statement, the ministry urged all Bangladeshi nationals currently in Iran who are interested in returning to register with the Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran by submitting their names, addresses, and other required details.

Family members in Bangladesh have also been advised to contact the relevant authorities if needed, the statement added.

Earlier, the foreign ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi citizens abroad, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken for a safe, secure, and orderly repatriation.
