Chief Adviser’s Press Wing: Gabbard’s Comments on Bangladesh Misleading and Harmful to Its Reputation

Interim Government Expresses Concern Over Tulsi Gabbard’s Remarks on Bangladesh
The Interim Government has expressed deep concern and distress over recent remarks made by U.S. Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard regarding Bangladesh in an interview with Indian television channel NDTV World.
In a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the government strongly refuted Gabbard’s claims, in which she alleged “persecution and killing” of religious minorities in Bangladesh and asserted that “the threat of Islamic terrorists” in the country is “rooted” in an agenda to “rule and govern with an Islamist caliphate.”
“The statement made by Tulsi Gabbard is both misleading and damaging to the image and reputation of Bangladesh, a nation known for its inclusive and peaceful practice of Islam. Bangladesh has made significant progress in combating extremism and terrorism,” the press wing stated.
The statement further emphasized that Gabbard’s comments were not based on any evidence or specific allegations but rather painted an unjust and inaccurate picture of an entire nation.
While acknowledging that Bangladesh, like many other countries, has faced challenges related to extremism, the government reaffirmed its continuous collaboration with the international community, including the United States, to address these concerns through law enforcement, social reforms, and counterterrorism initiatives. “Baselessly linking Bangladesh to an ‘Islamist caliphate’ disregards the dedicated efforts of its people and international partners committed to peace, stability, and progress,” the statement added.
The Interim Government strongly condemned any attempt to associate Bangladesh with extremist ideologies and stressed that political leaders and public figures should base their statements on factual information rather than reinforcing harmful stereotypes that could incite fear and sectarian tensions.
“In support of global efforts to combat extremism and terrorism, Bangladesh remains committed to constructive dialogue based on facts and mutual respect for sovereignty and security,” the statement concluded.
