Houthis claim strikes on targets in Saudi Arabia, rebel media reports

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi media outlet Ansarollah said Tuesday that the rebels had targeted sites in Saudi Arabia, as they continue an offensive aimed at capturing territory near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The Houthis on Monday accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes in several parts of the country, including a deadly attack on a prison.

“Yemeni drones and missiles pound the Saudi enemy,” Ansarollah said in a post on Telegram.

In a separate statement, the outlet said the strikes targeted Abha International Airport, King Khalid Air Base and facilities operated by state-owned oil giant Aramco in Abha and Jizan.

Saudi authorities had not immediately commented on the claims.

More than 300 people have reportedly been killed in several days of fighting along the Red Sea coast, while hundreds of families have been displaced as the Houthis seek to seize territory bordering the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The strategic waterway connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and has become increasingly important for Saudi oil shipments amid Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz following the outbreak of the US-Iran war.

Almasirah, another Houthi-affiliated outlet, quoted Hassan Saboula, director-general of civil defence in Jawf province, as saying Monday’s prison strike killed 11 people, while 20 inmates remained missing beneath the rubble.

The Houthi-linked Saba news agency earlier reported that a child visiting the facility was among those killed.
