BNP to Form Probe Committee over Mitford Hospital Murder
The BNP has announced plans to form an investigation and fact-finding committee to determine the root causes behind the recent brutal murder on the premises of Mitford Hospital in the capital.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at a press conference held at the party chairperson’s political office in Gulshan on Tuesday morning.
“The committee will uncover the real truth behind the incident, and its findings will be made public,” Fakhrul said.
Reaffirming BNP’s firm and consistent stance on the need for swift justice and exemplary punishment in all murder cases, Fakhrul said, “We are forming a probe committee comprising appropriate individuals to investigate the underlying cause of this heinous crime.”
He further expressed concern that the Mitford incident could be politically manipulated to disrupt the upcoming national election process. “We are determined to identify and resist those who are trying to destabilise the political atmosphere and push the country towards uncertainty — essentially paving the way for the resurgence of fascism,” he warned.
Fakhrul suggested that the murder might be exploited by certain groups with political motives. “There is ample reason to suspect that this incident is being used — possibly at the instigation of a specific group — to create unrest and derail the electoral environment,” he said.
Citing earlier incidents, including the triple murder in Muradnagar, Cumilla, the killing of a mosque imam in the same district, and the recent attack on Jubo Dal leader Mahbub Molla in Khulna, Fakhrul questioned whether similar public outcry and resistance were seen in those cases.
He said the lack of immediate intervention in the Mitford incident, despite it occurring in broad daylight and in front of many people near law enforcement presence, raises serious questions.
Alleging a conspiracy targeting the BNP's senior leadership, Fakhrul described it as part of a wider scheme to defame the party and its top figures. “This is a deliberate and well-orchestrated smear campaign against the country’s most popular political party and the key leader of the anti-authoritarian movement,” he said.
“We strongly protest and condemn the vulgar and defamatory remarks made publicly against him,” he added.
Fakhrul asserted that Bangladesh must not be allowed to fall victim to the destructive plots of a handful of political conspirators. “The youth who stood with us in the fall of fascism will once again join us in defending the country’s independence and sovereignty. No malicious scheme can obstruct our path to achieving our democratic goals.”
Calling for unity among all democratic forces, he said, “We must remain vigilant and not fall into the trap of engineered conflict. We are unwavering in our commitment to restoring true democracy in Bangladesh through united national resolve.”
