Chamber Court extends suspension of HC stay on DUCSU polls until Wednesday’s hearing

The Supreme Court’s Chamber Court on Tuesday prolonged its suspension of a High Court order that had postponed the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections for nearly two months.
The matter has been scheduled as the first agenda item for hearing at the Appellate Division on Wednesday.
The development was confirmed by Shishir Monir, counsel for Dhaka University.
On Monday afternoon, the High Court, following a writ petition hearing at 3:50pm, had ordered that the DUCSU polls be deferred until 30 October.
However, soon after the verdict, Shishir Monir moved to the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division with a handwritten petition, arguing that the High Court order contained a legal flaw.
Taking into account the urgency and sensitivity of the case, Chamber Judge Justice Farah Mahbub stayed the High Court’s order within an hour, effectively clearing the way for the DUCSU election to proceed.
