The government has extended financial assistance to the families of those killed in the earthquake.
The government has extended financial assistance to the families of those killed or injured in Friday’s earthquake, which struck Dhaka and several other districts.
Families of the deceased have been given Tk 25,000 each, while those injured received Tk 15,000 through their respective district administrations.
In the immediate aftermath of the quake, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief activated an emergency response centre at the Department of Disaster Management. The centre, reachable at 02-58811651, has been coordinating with district administrations to gather preliminary data on casualties and damage.
Initial loss reports have come in from Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Magura. So far, Dhaka has reported four deaths and 59 injuries; Narayanganj, one death and 18 injuries; Narsingdi, five deaths and 110 injuries; Gazipur, 252 injuries; and Magura, 22 injuries.
In total, the quake resulted in 10 deaths and 461 injuries. Many of the injured have already been discharged after receiving initial treatment at various hospitals.
Authorities are currently taking necessary steps to assess the full extent of the damage.
