"CEC: We will remain neutral, offering neither support nor opposition to any party in the election"

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has affirmed that the Election Commission will remain completely neutral in the upcoming polls, working neither in favor of nor against any political party.

“We will work for the 18 crore people of the country. Voting is not only a civic responsibility but also a matter of conscience,” he stated.

Speaking to journalists in Rangpur on Saturday morning, the CEC warned that when the state, government, and political parties merge into one, the entire system collapses. He acknowledged that public trust in the electoral process has declined, making voter turnout a significant challenge.

Addressing the spread of misinformation on social media, Nasir Uddin voiced concern over the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to circulate false information. He said the Election Commission is taking active measures to counter such content.

Regarding irregularities by presiding officers in the last election, the CEC pledged action against those responsible. He assured that the commission is committed to ensuring the 13th general election is held in a transparent and orderly manner.

While admitting that law and order remains a major challenge, he expressed optimism that the situation will improve as the election draws nearer.
