Fakhrul: Ziaur Rahman’s ascent to power marked a turning point for the nation
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the rise of BNP founder and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to power through the Sepoy-People’s Revolution marked a decisive turning point in Bangladesh’s history.
“On the historic day of November 7, 1975, the people foiled the conspiracy of hegemonism. The emergence of statesman Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman through the Sepoy-People’s Revolution was a turning point for the nation,” Fakhrul said.
He made the remarks after paying tribute at the mausoleum of Ziaur Rahman in observance of the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Leaders and activists from different BNP units and affiliated organisations placed wreaths in tribute. Senior leaders, including Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, were also present.
Fakhrul said Ziaur Rahman had restored multi-party democracy and worked to uphold the rights of the people and the media. “In just four years, he brought about sweeping political, social, and economic transformations,” he said.
“Ziaur Rahman introduced judicial independence and a free-market economy, setting Bangladesh on a path of progress. The foundations he laid continue to drive the country’s advancement today. He was truly a man of destiny,” he added.
The BNP secretary general further warned that after the July Uprising, various forces are again conspiring to undermine democracy. He urged everyone to unite and resist such conspiracies in the spirit of November 7.
