Islami Andolan unveils 16-point demand at Dhaka rally

Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) unveiled a 16-point demand at a grand rally held at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Saturday. Party spokesperson Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman read out the declaration, local media reported.

The demands include sweeping reforms aimed at establishing good governance, preventing authoritarianism, and addressing public grievances ahead of a potential mass uprising in July.

Key highlights of the declaration:

  • Reinstating absolute faith in Allah as a foundational constitutional principle

  • Adopting proportional representation in both houses of parliament

  • Building national unity to implement a "July Charter" and end exploitation

  • Reforming state structures to deter future authoritarian rule

  • Ensuring a level playing field for free, fair, and fascism-free elections

  • Launching diplomatic efforts to bring back fugitives and punish past regime crimes

  • Recovering laundered assets and combating economic crimes

  • Strengthening administrative efforts against terrorism and extortion

  • Disclosing all pacts with India and scrapping anti-national deals

  • Holding local polls before general elections under a non-partisan caretaker setup

  • Barring the corrupt, criminals, and loan defaulters from contesting elections

  • Guaranteeing electoral integrity before announcing polls

  • Ending politically motivated cases and systemic corruption

  • Taking swift action against anti-Islamic and anti-sovereignty acts

  • Mobilising against corruption through national unity

  • Embedding Islamic values across state institutions

Party leaders stressed that the charter was essential to defend the nation’s independence, protect civil rights, and counter threats to Islam and national sovereignty.
