A case has been filed against 475 individuals in connection with acts of vandalism, arson, and attacks on police personnel during Wednesday’s unrest in Gopalganj Sadar upazila, which was triggered by a rally organised by the National Citizen Party (NCP).

Inspector Ali Ahmed lodged the case at the Sadar Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, naming 75 accused and listing 400 others as unidentified, Officer-in-Charge Mir Sajedur Rahman informed the media on Friday.

He added that over 50 suspects have already been arrested, and multiple police teams are actively working on the investigation.

The violence on Wednesday led to the deaths of four individuals and injuries to dozens more as clashes broke out between Awami League–Chhatra League activists and law enforcement personnel over the NCP rally. Another victim died on Friday while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

In response to the escalating violence, local authorities initially imposed Section 144 across the Sadar upazila. This was followed by the imposition of a 22-hour curfew starting from 8pm on Wednesday. Just before the curfew was scheduled to lift on Thursday, the government extended it indefinitely, allowing only a brief three-hour break from 11am to 2pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, the government has formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the violence and assess the extent of casualties and damage to property.
