CEC says EC is preparing to hold parliamentary elections between February and April.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that the Election Commission (EC) is preparing to hold the 13th parliamentary election between February and April next year.

“Our preparations are in full swing, with the election timeline set between February and April,” he told reporters at the EC headquarters in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Tuesday.

Asked about his recent courtesy meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus, the CEC said that the election schedule was not discussed during the meeting.

However, he noted that the chief adviser had inquired about the EC’s progress, and was informed that preparations were advancing robustly.

The chief adviser expressed confidence that the upcoming general election would be held in a free, fair, and credible manner under the current Election Commission, he added.

The CEC also said that the official election schedule will be announced at an appropriate time.

Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, speaking at a recent event in Dhaka, called on the chief adviser to clarify what was discussed during his meeting with the CEC.

It is worth noting that Chief Adviser Prof Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman held crucial talks in London on June 13.

Following the meeting, both parties issued a joint statement announcing that the next general election would be held a week before Ramadan, expected in February next year.

However, in a surprising turn, the CEC later stated that the commission is proceeding with full preparations for the election, targeting a window between February and April.
