All 144 new political parties seeking registration with the Election Commission (EC) failed to clear the initial stage of the application review due to missing or inaccurate information, EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz said on Tuesday.

The Commission will issue letters to the parties, instructing them to rectify and complete their applications within 15 working days.

In the first phase, letters will be sent to 62 parties, followed by another round to the remaining 82, including the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP), in the second phase.

At the preliminary scrutiny stage, the EC examines whether an applicant party meets the basic regulatory requirements on paper. These requirements are often criticised as being overly "strict and authoritative," especially for emerging parties.

The process then moves to a second phase involving field verification, and finally, a third stage where the EC invites complaints or objections, holds hearings, and makes a final decision based on the outcomes.
