Gazipur may gain an additional seat, while Bagerhat is likely to lose one: EC’s Anwarul

Parliamentary constituencies are being reorganised based on the number of voters in each district, with more seats proposed for areas with larger voter populations and fewer for those with smaller ones.

As part of this process, a special committee has recommended adding one seat to Gazipur and removing one from Bagerhat.

Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar shared the update at a press conference on Wednesday (July 30) at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon, Dhaka.

He noted that under Articles 119 to 124 of the Constitution, the Election Commission is responsible for delimiting constituencies for national elections.

The commission consulted experts and reviewed recommendations from the Consensus Commission. A technical team was formed to carry out the task, taking into account multiple factors, including data from the 2022 population census, he added.
