Women’s 10km open water race postponed over unsafe water conditions

The women's 10km open water race at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore has been postponed due to unsafe water conditions, World Aquatics announced on Tuesday.
Originally slated for Tuesday morning at Sentosa Island, the race was rescheduled to Wednesday after a course inspection revealed that water quality levels had surpassed acceptable limits. As a result, the men’s 10km race, which was planned for Wednesday, will now also be held on the same day.
In a statement, World Aquatics said the decision was made “in the utmost interest of athlete safety” and expressed regret over the disruption caused to athletes and teams.
"The health and safety of participants remain the highest priority in all competition-related decisions," the organization stated.
Although earlier tests had indicated safe conditions, a sample taken on Sunday showed elevated contamination, prompting the postponement.
Pool swimming events are scheduled to begin on July 27.
