Bangladesh Under-20 team retained the SAFF title, edging to a 4–3 victory in the tie-breaker, while Aminul promised rewards for the achievement.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque swiftly lauded Bangladesh’s Under-20 football team and promised rewards after they defeated India 4–3 in a penalty shootout on Friday to retain the SAFF U-20 Championship title.

He congratulated the young Tigers on their spirited victory and announced financial incentives in recognition of their achievement.

Following a tense 0–0 draw in regulation time at the National Football Stadium in Malé, Bangladesh held their nerve in the shootout with impressive composure.

Goalkeeper Md Ismail Hossain Mahin proved decisive, making a crucial save that swung the momentum in Bangladesh’s favour.

Md Murshed Ali, Chandon Roy and Abdul Fahim all converted under pressure as Bangladesh edged ahead in the high-stakes contest. India, meanwhile, stumbled with a costly miss and another effort striking the crossbar.

Ronan Sullivan then sealed the win with a calm Panenka, triggering jubilant celebrations. He sprinted toward the stands and tore off his shirt in delight as teammates rushed onto the pitch in emotional scenes.

Earlier, both teams exchanged attacking moves, but Bangladesh’s disciplined defence and sharp counter-attacks kept India in check.

With the dramatic win, Bangladesh’s juniors successfully defended their title, capping a memorable and hard-fought campaign.
