The rulers of the United Arab Emirates have granted royal pardons to 440 Bangladeshi inmates in celebration of the UAE’s 54th Union Day, highlighting the country’s long-standing humanitarian ethos.

The clemency was announced as part of the 2025 Eid Al Etihad (UAE National Day) observances, during which the UAE leadership pardoned thousands of prisoners of various nationalities nationwide, according to a press release issued by the UAE embassy on Wednesday.

Royal pardons are customarily issued by UAE rulers on major national and religious occasions, including Eid festivals and National Day, to encourage forgiveness, social reintegration, and family reunification.

Officials said the latest round of pardons in late 2025 covered a significant number of inmates, including Bangladeshi nationals, giving them a chance to rebuild their lives and reunite with their families and communities.

The move reflects the UAE leadership’s continued commitment to humanitarian values and compassion.

Eid Al Etihad, observed annually on 2 December, commemorates the historic unification of the emirates in 1971 under a single flag.
