Turkey’s Foreign Minister Reaches Dhaka on Two-Day Official Trip
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Dhaka on Thursday night for a two-day official visit aimed at deepening strategic ties and enhancing cooperation in trade, investment and humanitarian affairs between Bangladesh and Türkiye.
He was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
During his stay, Fidan and Dr Rahman are expected to hold bilateral talks on Friday covering a broad range of issues, including trade and investment, security cooperation, regional developments and other matters of mutual interest.
The Turkish foreign minister is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and visit Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, highlighting Türkiye’s ongoing support for displaced Rohingyas and humanitarian initiatives in Bangladesh.
This is Fidan’s first official visit to Bangladesh.
As part of his programme, he will review humanitarian projects being carried out in the camps by several Turkish organisations, including the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Turkish Red Crescent, the Turkish Diyanet Foundation and Türkiye’s Ministry of Health. He is also set to visit the Turkish Field Hospital operating in the camps.
Bangladesh and Türkiye have been seeking to expand their economic partnership, with both countries aiming to raise bilateral trade from $1.35 billion in 2025 to $2 billion in the coming years.
The visit comes after a meeting between Fidan and Dr Khalilur Rahman in Ankara on 14 March, the first foreign minister-level engagement between the two nations since the BNP-led government took office.
