The United States has assured Bangladesh of its support in addressing the country’s energy crisis.

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and a resulting global energy crunch, Bangladesh has sought support from the United States to help secure its fuel supplies.

Washington assured Dhaka of its cooperation in strengthening the country’s energy security.

The assurance came during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday (1 April) at the United States Department of Energy in Washington, D.C., where Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman met with Chris Wright.

Details of the meeting were shared in a statement issued by the Embassy of Bangladesh, Washington, D.C..

During the discussion, the foreign minister outlined the challenges Bangladesh is facing in its energy sector due to disruptions in global supply chains and sought US support to ensure uninterrupted fuel access. In response, Wright acknowledged Bangladesh’s concerns and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to assisting the country during the current difficulties.

The two sides also discussed prospects for long-term cooperation in the energy sector, including ensuring stable and secure fuel supplies for Bangladesh and exploring the possibility of increasing imports of US energy products.

Senior officials from both countries were present at the meeting. Bangladesh’s ambassador to the United States and other senior embassy officials accompanied the foreign minister during the talks.
