The Election Commission has urged voters to ensure the confidentiality of their postal ballots.

The Election Commission (EC) has called on voters to strictly uphold the secrecy of postal ballots, warning that sharing any details, images, or videos of ballots or voting choices on social media is a punishable offence under the law.

In a message issued today, the EC said, “Protecting the secrecy of postal votes is both your right and your responsibility.”

Emphasising that disclosing ballot-related information online is illegal, the commission cautioned voters to refrain from posting or sharing such content, noting that violations could result in the blocking of NID cards and other legal action.

The directive was also reiterated by Salim Ahmad Khan, team leader of the Out-of-Country Voting System and Implementation (OCV-SDI) project for expatriate voter registration.

The 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and referendum are scheduled for Thursday, February 12. Over the past 14 days until Friday, postal ballots have been sent to 552,479 expatriate voters across different countries to enable their participation.
