The ACC counsel has said he expects Sheikh Hasina to receive life imprisonment in the plot scam cases.

A Dhaka court is set to announce its verdict tomorrow in three cases against 47 individuals — among them ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter Saima Wazed Putul — over alleged irregularities in RAJUK plot allocations.

Mir Ahammed Salam, the public prosecutor representing the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said he expects all the accused — including the former prime minister and her children — to be found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. He said the prosecution has established the allegations through witness testimony and documentary evidence. “We are seeking the maximum penalty, which is life imprisonment, for all the accused,” he added.

On November 23, Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 set November 27 for delivering the verdict after both the prosecution and defence wrapped up their arguments.

Earlier, on July 31, Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 framed charges in three of the six cases and issued arrest warrants for the accused. On the same day, Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 framed charges in the remaining three cases.

Before that, on July 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib forwarded the cases to trial courts, noting that the accused had repeatedly failed to appear despite court orders.

On July 1, the court ordered a gazette notification summoning 100 accused, including Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

The ACC filed the six cases between January 12 and 14, 2025, and submitted charge-sheets in all of them on March 10.

According to case records:

  • The first case, filed on January 14 by ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin, accused eight individuals — including Hasina — of irregularities in the allocation of a 10-katha plot in Purbachal. The charge-sheet later named 12 accused.

  • A second case filed the same day by ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan accused 15 people, including Hasina and Joy, with the charge-sheet later listing 17 accused.

  • On January 13, another case filed by Salahuddin named 15 accused, including Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Radwan Mujib, Tulip Siddiq, and Azmina Siddiq; the charge-sheet listed 17.

  • A separate case filed that day accused 16 people, including Hasina, Tulip Siddiq, and Azmina Siddiq; the charge-sheet named 18.

  • Another case was filed against Radwan Mujib and 15 others, with 18 accused in the charge-sheet.

  • On January 12, ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya filed a case against 16 people, including Hasina and Saima Wazed Putul; the charge-sheet later included 18 accused.

Verdicts in three of these cases are expected tomorrow.
