Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said Bangladesh will elect its next President during the upcoming parliamentary session in September, ruling out the need for a special session of Parliament for the vote.

Speaking to reporters at CIRDAP in Dhaka on Saturday (25 July), the minister said the current situation did not warrant convening a special parliamentary session to elect the country's new head of state, according to Channel 24.

Responding to a question about a case involving the outgoing President, Asaduzzaman declined to comment, saying it was "too early to make any remarks on the matter."

Mohammed Shahabuddin took office as Bangladesh's 22nd President on 24 April 2023. Under the Constitution, his five-year term was originally set to run until April 2028.
