Pakistan envoy meets CA, discusses trade and investment cooperation
High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh Imran Haider paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at the state guesthouse in Dhaka on Sunday.
During the meeting, the two sides explored ways to deepen cooperation in trade, investment and aviation, alongside efforts to expand cultural, educational and medical exchanges to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two South Asian countries.
The Pakistani envoy said bilateral trade has grown by 20 percent compared to last year, with business communities in both countries actively seeking new investment opportunities.
He also pointed to a notable rise in cultural exchanges, noting that Bangladeshi students are showing strong interest in pursuing higher education in Pakistan, particularly in medical sciences, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.
Haider added that an increasing number of patients are travelling to Pakistan’s leading hospitals for liver and kidney transplants, and said Pakistan is willing to offer training and academic opportunities in transplantation-related medical fields.
Chief Adviser Yunus welcomed the expanding engagements between the two countries and stressed the importance of more visits, as well as enhanced cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges among SAARC member states.
He also highlighted the need to further boost Bangladesh–Pakistan trade and expressed hope that during Haider’s tenure, the two sides would explore new areas for investment and joint-venture businesses.
The Pakistani high commissioner said direct Dhaka–Karachi flights are expected to begin in January.
SDG Coordinator and Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed was present at the meeting.
