Nine Killed in Mirpur Chemical Warehouse Fire

Nine people were killed and several others injured after a fire broke out at a readymade garment factory and a chemical warehouse in the Shialbari area of Mirpur, Dhaka, on Tuesday.

According to Talha Bin Jashim, an official of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (Media Cell), the blaze began at the warehouse around 11:40am and spread rapidly. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined.

Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have joined the ongoing rescue operation at the site.

Twelve units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence have been working since noon to bring the blaze under control. The fire service received the first report of the incident at 11:40am, and the first unit arrived on the scene at 11:56am.
