Home Affairs Adviser Lt Col (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday cautioned that disciplinary measures would be taken against police officials if they fail to manage future Awami League rallies effectively.

Speaking to reporters after a visit to the Airport police station in the capital, he addressed concerns about police inaction during recent AL processions. “Two individuals have already been detained. Police have been instructed to prevent such rallies from occurring again,” he said.

Chowdhury noted that steps are being taken to further strengthen the country’s overall law and order situation.

Responding to questions about police officers remaining in their previous postings despite transfer orders, the adviser said action would be taken if concrete information is provided.

Regarding the transfer policy, he said the government is considering allowing general police personnel to serve within the same division to ease the strain of long-distance postings. “When officers are stationed far from their families, it limits their ability to take leave. They are entitled to only 20 days of annual leave, and even that is sometimes difficult to approve,” he explained. “That’s why we are exploring intra-divisional transfers.”

Chowdhury also stated that his visit aimed to review and improve accommodation and food facilities for police personnel.
