11.95 Lakh People Receive Government-Funded Legal Aid

Legal aid has been extended to 11,95,075 individuals at government expense through the National Legal Aid Services Organization, according to a recent report published on its official website.

The report provides a comprehensive overview of legal aid support delivered between 2009 and March 2025. It notes that legal aid was provided in 4,21,364 cases involving financially disadvantaged litigants.

Of the total beneficiaries, 28,837 received assistance through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, while 9,50,823 people were served by the Legal Aid Offices across all 64 districts. Additionally, 29,147 individuals were supported through the Workers’ Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chittagong.

Furthermore, 1,86,268 people accessed legal aid via the toll-free National Helpline Call Center '16430'.

These services were provided under the Legal Aid Services Act, 2000 to ensure justice for financially incapable individuals. The National Legal Aid Services Organization operates under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
