OIC reiterates demand for accountability over Rohingya atrocities

On the eighth anniversary of the atrocities in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) renewed its call for justice and accountability, reaffirming solidarity with the Rohingya Muslims and urging stronger international action to protect their rights and secure lasting solutions.

In a statement issued today, the OIC voiced support for the Rohingyas, who continue to endure persecution, statelessness, and displacement. It noted that over one million remain in camps in Bangladesh and other host countries, while thousands inside Myanmar still suffer killings, systemic discrimination, and severe rights violations.

The OIC underscored its backing for global initiatives—including proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ)—to hold perpetrators accountable. It stressed that all parties to the conflict, particularly the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army, must comply with ICJ provisional measures and ensure protection of the Rohingya population.

The statement praised Bangladesh and other OIC member states for hosting Rohingya refugees, acknowledging humanitarian contributions from Muslim nations. At the same time, it urged sustained international aid and pressed Myanmar to take “concrete steps” toward safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation.

Reiterating the need for stronger global solidarity, the OIC called for coordinated efforts to address the root causes of the crisis and secure a just and durable resolution.
“On this day of remembrance, the OIC honors the courage and resilience of Rohingya Muslims and reaffirms its commitment to championing their rights on the international stage,” it added.
