HC Rejects Writ Challenging Women Affairs Reform Commission Recommendations

The High Court today summarily dismissed a writ petition that challenged the legality of certain recommendations made by the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission.
A division bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi issued the order, rejecting the petition with a set of observations.
The court termed the petition “premature,” noting that the commission’s recommendations have not yet been implemented, nor has the government made any decision regarding them.
“If the government moves forward with the implementation, the petitioner may then seek legal recourse,” the bench observed.
The writ was filed on May 4 by Supreme Court lawyer Rowshan Ali, who argued that several of the commission’s recommendations conflicted with the Constitution, religious values, and Shariah.
Rowshan Ali represented himself in court, while Additional Attorney General Barrister Aneek Rushd Haque appeared on behalf of the state. The writ had named three relevant ministries and the chairperson of the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission as respondents.
