Political parties have expressed their support for the interim government's initiatives, including its reform measures, according to chief adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam on Sunday.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus held meetings with leaders of 20 political parties for the second day in a row on Sunday. Following the discussions, Alam briefed journalists outside the State Guest House Jamuna in the evening.

He stated that the chief adviser discussed a range of issues with the party leaders, including the upcoming elections and the progress of ongoing reforms. Professor Yunus informed the political parties that the elections would be held sometime between December this year and June next year. He assured that the polls would definitely take place by 30 June next year, a commitment that reportedly satisfied the political leaders.

Alam also relayed that the chief adviser described the current state of affairs as a "war-like situation," stating, “After the Awami League’s activities were banned, there have been various attempts to destabilise us. We must overcome this situation.”

Regarding the elections, Professor Yunus told the political leaders, “I will feel guilty if I cannot hold a fair election.”

Deputy press secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were also present at the briefing.
