Embrace social business initiatives to uplift the Muslim world
Islamic NGOs urged to act by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Sunday called on Islamic NGOs to engage more actively in social business initiatives to support the global Muslim community.
The appeal came during a meeting with a delegation of NGO leaders from various Muslim-majority countries at the state guest house Jamuna in Dhaka, according to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s press wing.
“In our world, we focus on women and health care. Poverty is often linked to a lack of access to health services. We view health care as a tool to assist the poor,” Prof Yunus said.
He emphasized that social business offers a sustainable way to provide such support, noting that he continues to encourage youth worldwide to embrace social business and become entrepreneurs.
The visiting NGO leaders acknowledged that Yunus’s global advocacy for social business in recent years had inspired similar efforts in their respective countries.
Foreign delegates attending the meeting included Eyüp Akbal, Secretary General of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) from Turkey; Muhammed Hüseyin Akta, representative of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA); Fauwaz Bin Hasbullah, representative of WADAH and Deputy Secretary General of UNIW from Malaysia; Muhammad Abdus Shakoor, President of Alkhidmat Foundation and Deputy Secretary General of UNIW from Pakistan; and Salamun Bashri, member of UNIW’s auditing board from Indonesia.
Also present were Mahbub Ahmed, retired Dhaka University professor and President of BIIT; SM Rasheduzzman, Chairman of SAWAB and member of UNIW’s High Advisory Board; Ali Afzal, UNIW council member and Managing Director of Krishibid Group; and M Abdul Aziz, Director General of BIIT and Bangladesh Country Representative for IIIT.
